The volume, which accompanies the exhibition of Marisa Albanese's work staged in the Loggia of Castel Nuovo in Naples, constitutes a fascinating exploration of the luminescent installations, light boxes, sculptures and photographs produced by the artist for the occasion.
The Sala Carlo V, on the second floor, has been completely blacked-out. Inside, the work Resistenze ("Resistances"), nine cables of nickel supported by two steel bases that create an incandescent column (315 x 15 cm), emanating heat and color. On the wall in front is set the work RAW ON 2002, three helmets of chrome-plated bronze that also contain electric resistances that become incandescent and spell out the title. On the side walls is set the Trittico Gemello ("Twin Triptych"), an installation of light boxes in which the symbol of the helmet returns, this time accompanied by maps that evoke places made famous over the course of the 20th century by the exploits of women.
In the Sala della Loggia, on the third floor, slender tubes of aluminum outline a perspective sequence in space where photographs and sculptures alternate: Cube, eight life-size photographs; Allieve ("Pupils"), four sculptures of androgynous youths with their feet outstretched in the effort of a leap; Rivolta ("Revolt"), a female body that can be glimpsed through the mesh of luminescent nylon threads that covers it.
Edited by Manuela Gandini, the catalogue includes critical essays by Cherubino Gambardella, Manuela Gandini, Maria Nadotti, Pier Aldo Rovatti and Vincenzo Trione and a conversation between the artist and Francesco Galdieri.
