The Netherlandish Yearbook for History of Art 32 is a useful complement to today's interest in art collection. The various contributions cover approximately three centuries, from about 1650 to after World War II. The articles are arranged in chronological order, each one being based on a certain collection or collector with the exception of the first article that provides a cross section of what is to follow. These seven articles about collecting in the Netherlands broach a number of extremely different but yet important issues. Included are the 17th and 18th century collections of the Rembrandt drawings, the collections of John Hope and Francois Bagel, the collecting of early Italian art in the Netherlands, and the collection of contemporary art made by P.A. Regnault who was the first person in the Netherlands to collect avant-garde art on an international level.
